Cafe Bon Bon is a restaurant located in Richmond Hill serving brunch, dinner, desserts and a wide assortment of drinks. Their dishes are colourful and fresh. Each ingredient looks delicately placed making the plate very inviting. When you first step inside, you’re greeted by a chic and glamourous interior. We visited on a late Saturday afternoon and they were pretty busy but there were still tables available.
Choosing what to order on the menu was hard, so many items sounded interesting! But with just the two of us, we had to limit ourselves. The ’48H Short Rib Don’ is described as “6 oz 48-hour sous vide organic short rib, enoki, scallion, beni shoga, short rib jus“. This was our favourite dish of the meal. The meat was so juicy and tender, each bite was a flavourful delight. The meat to rice to sauce ratio was balanced. The only thing is the serving size is on the smaller side. I would eat this again and again.
The ‘Arancini Takoyaki’ are “risotto rice balls, sous vide octopus, beni shoga aioli, romesco, bonito flakes, nori powder“. They were cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The presentation was aesthetically pleasing. The nice and bouncy octopus piece inside was a decent size.
Next we ordered the ‘Crab Cake Tostada’ with a side of Crispy Potatoes. The dish is “Thai crab cake, avocado crema, asian pear, pickled red onion, radish, watercress“. This was my least favourite dish of the meal, but that’s not saying it wasn’t good. It was just a bit too dense for my liking. However the amount of crab meat and flavour was great.
Cafe Bon Bon’s most well-known dish is probably the ‘Souffle Pancakes’. They describe them as “light, airy, fluffy, and melt-in-your-mouth pancakes” and that is an accurate description! These were so delicious, it was over too fast. I can probably eat two servings of this by myself. It takes 20-30 minutes of prep time after you order so there is a bit of a wait, but it’s well worth it. Plus all desserts come with a side of their housemade soft serve ice cream.
The ‘Fruit Tea’ is served on a cute tray with a teapot and little teacups. The tea has a fragrant and fruity taste, it wasn’t artificial or overly sweet which is really important to me. It was almost like juice with how strong the flavour was..but better!
Overall I really liked Cafe Bon Bon. They provided delicious food, friendly attentive service, and a bright open atmosphere. Their menu offerings are really unique and I want to go back to try more dishes. Also everything here is super Instagram-able from the decor to the lattes.
